In April 2010, the IKEM Cardiology Department became part of the European Teaching Centre for robotic catheter ablations supported by Hansen Medical, Inc. The Department of Cardiology of Nemocnice Na Homolce (Na Homolce Hospital) and the Institute of Physiology of the First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, in Prague are also involved in the project. The core of practical training is situated in the laboratory of the Institute of Physiology. In the scope of the teaching programme, clinical use of the Sensei robotic system in ablations of atrial fibrillation is demonstrated at the Cardiology Department.
In 2011, the Cardiology Department was selected by the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) as the specialised training centre for one-year training stays in the field of implantation of devices for the treatment of heart rhythm. Dr Milen Predovski of Sofia is the doctor who is currently passing his long-term training stay.
