  • From 1 June 2006 the Cardiology Department has the status of an accredited facility for implementation of the educational programme in cardiology pursuant to Section 17(8) of Act No. 95/2004 Coll. on the conditions of acquisition and recognition of professional qualifications and specialised qualifications for the medical profession of physician, dentist and pharmacist.

  • In April 2010, the IKEM Cardiology Department became part of the European Teaching Centre for robotic catheter ablations supported by Hansen Medical, Inc. The Department of Cardiology of Nemocnice Na Homolce (Na Homolce Hospital) and the Institute of Physiology of the First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, in Prague are also involved in the project. The core of practical training is situated in the laboratory of the Institute of Physiology. In the scope of the teaching programme, clinical use of the Sensei robotic system in ablations of atrial fibrillation is demonstrated at the Cardiology Department.

  • In 2011, the Cardiology Department was selected by the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) as the specialised training centre for one-year training stays in the field of implantation of devices for the treatment of heart rhythm. Dr Milen Predovski of Sofia is the doctor who is currently passing his long-term training stay.

  • The paper of the author collective comprising Melenovský, V., Al-Hiti, H., Kazdová, L., Jabor, A., Syrovátka, P., Málek, I., Kettner, J., Kautzner, J. called “Transpulmonary B-Type natriuretic peptide uptake and cyclic guanosine monophosphate release in heart failure and pulmonary hypertension”, published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology 2009, vol. 54, no. 7, pp. 595-600 was selected for presentation in the section “The best of Czech cardiology” at the XVIIIth Annual Meeting of the Czech Society of Cardiology in Brno on 18 May 2010. This paper won first position among all original Czech papers focused on cardiology for 2009, evaluated according to the prestige of the journal (the so-called impact factor).

  • The communication of the authors Kautzner, J., Mlčochová, H., Peichl, P., Čihák, R., Hlivák, P. and Wichterle, D. of the IKEM Cardiology Department, called “Selektivní katetrizační ablace v léčbě perzistující fibrilace síní u nemocných s chronickou srdeční insuficiencí” (Selective catheter ablation in the treatment of persisting atrial fibrillation in patients with chronic heart insufficiency) was selected by the editorial board of the journal Intervenční a akutní kardiologie (Interventional and Acute Cardiology) as the best original paper published in this journal in 2009. The prize for this publication was awarded to the authors at the XX Workshop in Interventional Cardiology held in Prague on 15-16 - 16. 4. 2010.

  • The paper of the author collective comprising Polák J., Kotrč M., Wedellová Z., Jabor A., Málek I., Kautzner J., Kazdová L., Melenovský V., called “Lipolytic effects of B-type natriuretic peptide 1-32 in adipose tissue of heart failure patients compared with healthy controls”, published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology 2011 Sept 6;58(11):1119-2, was selected for presentation in the section “The best of Czech cardiology” at the XX Annual Meeting of the Czech Society of Cardiology in Brno in 2012. This paper won first position among all original Czech papers focused on cardiology in 2011.

  • Since 2009, the Cardiology Department has been repeatedly selected by the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) as the specialised training centre for annual training stays in the fields of implantation of devices for the treatment of heart rhythm or catheter ablations.
