The European Reference Network for Rare Kidney Diseases (ERKNet) brings together 72 highly specialized nephrology centers for children and adults across 24 European countries. The network provides care for over 70,000 patients with rare kidney diseases and connects leading experts to deliver the highest quality diagnosis and long-term care.
Centers participating in ERKNet provide multidisciplinary care based on the latest medical knowledge, clinical guidelines, and the sharing of professional expertise across Europe. Network members meet strict criteria set by the European Commission for ERNs, and the quality of care provided is continuously monitored.
The Department of Nephrology at IKEM was admitted to the ERKNet network on January 1, 2022.
As part of our ERKNet membership, our clinical and research work focuses mainly on atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome and post-transplant thrombotic microangiopathies. For rare diseases diagnostics, we also collaborate with Semmelweis University (Prof. Prohászka) and with the University of Alberta (Prof. Halloran).
