The Radioisotope Division provides a broad spectrum of standard diagnostic assessments using open radionuclides; the assessments are performed in patients of IKEM, TN (Thomayer Hospital) and clients of other medical institutions in and outside Prague. The RID has introduced diagnostic methods falling within the scope of the special focus of IKEM. The division also provides treatments using therapeutic radionuclides (for example hyperthyroidism, articular hydrops, palliative treatment of pain in the presence of bone metastases). The procedures are done in the outpatient setting. In necessary cases, hospitalisation is provided at IKEM wards.

The RID has the following units:

  • Clinical unit – includes also the radiopharmaceutical laboratory
  • Physical-technical unit

Location of the division and instrumental equipment:

Pavilion V, which is found in the premises of TN (Thomayer Hospital). The location provides the advantage of absolutely barrier-free access. Three gamma cameras are located here:

  • Sopha DSX-NL – single-head gamma camera equipped with the scintillation NaI (Tl) detector for planar acquisitions
  • Sopha DST-XLi – double-head gamma camera equipped with scintillation NaI (Tl) detectors for planar and tomographic (SPECT) acquisitions
  • GE Infinia Hawkeye 4 – double-head hybrid gamma camera equipped with scintillation NaI (Tl) detectors and low-dose CT with localisation and attenuation for planar and tomographic (SPECT/CT) acquisitions

Another part of RID is found in the IKEM building – this part includes the radiopharmaceutical laboratory and an outpatient office with accessories, including a room equipped for load ergometric studies of the myocardium. The following instruments are localised in this part of the division:

  • GE Optima NM/CT 640 – modern double-head hybrid gamma camera equipped with scintillation NaI (Tl) detectors and low-dose CT with localisation and attenuation for planar and tomographic (SPECT/CT) acquisitions
  • Spectrum Dynamics D-SPECT – cardiology gamma camera equipped with CdZnTe semiconductor detectors for tomographic (SPECT) imaging in cardiology

More than 5,000 patients are taken care of at the division every year.
